What is VSEPR Theory in Chemistry? VSEPR Theory is use to predict the shapes of molecules. VSEPR Theory predicts the pairing (wheither it is bonds or as non-bonding) that electron pairs will take a geometry in which they maximize the distance from one another in order to minimize repulsion. The lowest possible energy will be the result in a geometry. This will also allows chemist to make prediction on which hybridization the central atom takes in bonding to other atoms. There are many region to in the VSEPR Theory, for example: Linear, trigonal planar, tetrahedral, trigonal bipyramidal, octahedral are the maximum regions of electron density can get away from affords a geometry distance; each name is base on it corresponding posistion on the distance region of electron density.

To start the experiment, it is crucial to first understand Lewis structure of a molecule. Lewis structure are diagrams that allow chemist to study the bonding between atoms of a molecule and the lone pair of electrons that may exist in the molecule. Step 1 in the experienment: Count how many pairs of electrons are around the central atom. Then position the electron base on their pairs. Two pairs are to be positioned 180 degree apart from each other. This shape is known as Linear. And if it three pairs, they are to be positioned 120 degree apart and the shape is trigonal planar. Four pairs of electrons are positioned as tetrahedral shape
